We're B-A-A-A-C-K!!!

We just "moved house", as they sometimes say in Britain, and since two households were living in one space, it was a long drawnout three-weekend affair.  The direct effect of this move has been the 10-day cessation of internet service.

Why izzit that your telephone system can be transferred instantly from your old location to your new, and in this case, even without a change of number, while the internet connection that you've had for two years must go down for a fortnight (also a British phrase... Contr. fr. fourteen nights, our ancestors reckoning time by nights and winters; so, also, seven nights, sennight, a week.] The space of fourteen days; two weeks.)

But wait, there's more.  When the internet connection was in place, it still didn't work.  Contacting CincyBell, we were told that we needed a Cisco modem, so I had to return the original one to a BellStore (it was a nice day for a drive).  Brought it home, hooked it up, and Bingo!!! it didn't work.

"Can't send a technician out before sometime Wednesday" (This was Monday morning)

Techie comes, plays around, reboots, jiggles, rattles and sez, "You didn't need the Cisco modem. The problem is at our office".

Installs different third party modem anyway, makes a phone call, Bingo!!! it works.

Have we gotten to the point where the technology that makes things simple is so complex that no individual can understand it? Certainly it's that way with the tax laws, so why not with the technology?
